After attending the national weiner races (yes, that’s a thing, and it’s freakin adorable), I finally had the chance to scratch off another restaurant on my to-do list. While I’ve had Chop Bar bookmarked since it opened, it took me almost 2 years to finally make it here. Located by the water in Jack London Square, Chop Bar is nestled in a rather nondescript but popular area of Oakland. It’s been able to maintain high reviews, and I have to say, it didn’t disappoint. The cozy atmosphere and delicious food added up to create an comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
We started off with their cheese plate. While it was delicious, it wasn’t the best cheese plate I’ve had. The bleu cheese was too strong and came in such a large amount that it overwhelmed the other cheeses. Love the way it was plated though.
Fortunately, Chop Bar redeemed itself with everything else. Next, the slow roasted pork ribs with apple jus. Wow. Although this may sound strange, it tasted like apple pie short ribs. Weird, but it worked. Wonderfully.
Of course, we had to try the oxtail poutine. Rich, creamy, flavorful– this is totally worth the food coma that’ll definitely hit you afterwards. It hurts so good.
And now, a picture from the wiener dog races. Just cause.
