They say that April showers bring May flowers. In NY, those showers are creeping into May but we’re finally seeing spring come into full bloom!! (Thank goodness gracious, winter is finally over.) Though, it did not come in time before for my patience for winter had run out. While I was back in California, I did not hesitate to bask in the warm sunshine and get my daily fix of vitamin D!
While the rest of So. Cal is in perpetual sunny, dry summer (it’s a shame, really), you can get your dose of Spring by visiting The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. It was my first time going and I was pretty excited after seeing how picturesque the fields were in photos. The ranch is located just one hour north of San Diego and is hidden behind all the shopping outlets in Carlsbad. Chances are you’ve been to Carlsbad to go shopping and have never even noticed the rolling hills of flowers right behind the shopping area. Go figure.
As far as the eye can see, the flowers stretch out into the horizon. On the cloudy morning that we went, the bright colors stood out against the gloomy sky.
There were countless flower variations from funky hybrids to carnations to succulents.
There is something there for everyone.
Next time you’re around the area, just stop by and smell the roses. 🙂 Then, head down to San Diego for great food and nightlife in the Gaslamp District. No trip is ever complete without Phil’s BBQ and carne asada fries!
